Blogging Coincidence? – I Think Not!

by Beamer on March 3, 2010

Did you ever have one of those days where the stars just as seem to line up and POINT and you can’t believe you didn’t see it in the first place?  I mean, it’s right there under your nose!  Well I did – yesterday.

Backstory – Yesterday morning I made my first post on this blog to tell you how important I think it is that you set up a Personal Prestige Blog.

More Backstory – My brother is in his late forties and he’s an Auto CAD designer, originally in the upscale housing industry but since that’s pretty much gone South in this neck of the woods he’s now involved in some type of concrete barriers or something.

ANYWAY - now that he’s getting a little older he’s thinking about retirement.  Unfortunately a lot of people in our generation haven’t planned ahead for that and he’s been getting interested in the work that I do online.  He has a pretty good job that he really enjoys but this downturn in the market has him concerned.  So I’ve been trying to get him to set up a blog for the past 6 months but he keeps resisting because he doesn’t see any benefit for himself in it.  (He DRAWS boxes all day long but he can’t THINK OUTSIDE OF THEM! I love ya, bro!)

Yesterday morning, out of the blue, I received an email from a total stranger inviting me to visit his blog that he had set up.  His personal blog.  The topic of his blog?  Auto CAD!  It was his own personal prestige blog!  Now, I’d give you the link to it but I deleted it because I had no idea it was going to figure so prominently in the day’s events.  And since I get so much email everyday I have no way of even finding it again because I don’t know the guy’s name.

However – After receiving that pretty cool email, and after coming on here to create my first post, my brother called me last night.  Now he has a college education and has had some pretty powerful jobs in his past so he knows what management is looking for.  In fact, he IS management.  He does the hiring for his entire department and it’s a very, very large company that he works for.

But here’s the deal – as I said, he’s starting to think about retirement and his future.    He doesn’t actually want to quit working, he’d just like to be able to do it from home.  Especially when he sees that his big sister is having so much fun with it.   But he doesn’t know how to promote himself.

So I told him about the email I received from the guy with the Prestige Blog and I told him what I told YOU yesterday.  Set up a blog and just start blogging about something that you’re passionate about.  If you love CAD, which you obviously do, blog about it.  Don’t worry about who’s reading it, or if anyone is reading, just blog!

And stick with me here….

I’ll teach you the rest!

(I think my brother has finally seen the light!)
